CGP Ep192 Recovery Tips
Jul 12, 2017If you think recovery from exercise involves simply taking the day off and sitting on the couch you need to listen to this!
The things we do outside the gym can be just as important as the work you do in the gym. I am so tired of seeing the hashtag #NoDaysOff!
More isn’t always better and in fact training, too much will result in the exact opposite results you were training for.
On your off day you can still be active, just avoid loading the muscle in a similar fashion to the loads you were applying during your training sessions. Off day activities can include, jogging, cycling, hiking, yoga, and hopefully GOLFING!
Post-workout recovery can be enhanced by taking BCAAs (Branch Chain Amino Acids) which are used to rebuild and replenish the muscle tissue to enhance recovery.
Epsom salt baths are great for relaxing after a hard session. The salts convert to magnesium once they are absorbed by the skin promoting hydration of the muscle tissues and relaxing the nervous system to help you sleep.
Follow the bath with a cold shower reinvigorate the nervous system. Meditation will take your stressed mind to a relaxed and present state. Perfect when performed at the end of your session.
I recommend listening to a Coach Glass Podcast MotiTiation episode or download a meditation app like Headspace.
Lastly…eat clean and drink plenty of WATER!
